Privacy Policy

JotLine is a minimal notes app that lives in your Mac's menu bar. This policy explains what information the app handles and your choices. By using JotLine, you agree to the practices described here.

The short version

• There is no account system — you never register or sign in.
• We do not collect, sell, or share any personal information.
• Your notes are stored locally on your Mac — no cloud, no iCloud sync, no tracking, no analytics.
• The only network activity is optional: when a note is exactly a web link, the app may fetch that page's title from the URL you provided (the same request your browser would make if you opened the link).

What the app stores — and where

• Notes, tags, the trash, and reminders are saved as local JSON files on your Mac (in the app's Application Support folder; on the Mac App Store version, inside the app's sandbox container).
• Reminders are scheduled through macOS's local notification center and never leave your device.
• We have no access to this data — it exists only on your computer.

Network usage

• Web-link notes: if the entire note is a URL, JotLine fetches that page's title so it can display the note's name. This sends a request to the website you pasted — equivalent to opening the URL in a browser. The request does not include your other notes, personal data, or device information.
• Local file and folder notes open locally on your Mac; they are never uploaded.
• Importing and exporting uses macOS's system file dialogs; files are read or written only at the location you choose.

Notifications

JotLine may ask for notification permission solely to show the reminders you create. Notifications are delivered by macOS on your device; no server is involved.

Your control over data

• Deleting a note moves it to the Trash; Empty Trash removes it permanently.
• You can export all your notes at any time as JSON or Markdown.
• Uninstalling the app removes its local data.

Children's privacy

The app does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we will update this page and revise the "Last updated" date above.
